Hyderabad: IT giant Wipro’s hiring plans for fiscal 2009-10 are on track, with 8,500 people to be recruited by May-June 2010. The company plans to hit campuses early next year to wrap up recruitments of grads for the next fiscal, Wipro joint CEO (IT business) Girish Paranjpe said here on Wednesday.

“As we had promised, we will honour all the offers Wipro had made last year. We will be hiring 5,000 people in a space of two months and by May-June next year we should have brought on board all those who were offered jobs,’’ said Paranjpe, who was in town to dedicate Manikonda Lake at its Hyderabad facility that the company has adopted and restored.
Talking about next year’s recruitment plans, Paranjpe said that the company would firm up its hiring strategy only after getting a clearer picture of their clients’ budgets.
“With clear signs of a revival, further cuts in IT budgets of companies are not expected. Many of our clients are in the budget-making stage. We hope to know their budgets by January-February next year. Once we get an idea about their budgets and spend-levels, we will get a good sense of what to hire,’’ Paranjpe said, indicating that recruits would comprise a of nearly 60% fresh grads and 40% experienced hands.
Paranjpe said unlike the regular IT industry practice to hire mainly from engineering college campuses, Wipro had been hiring not just fresh engineering grads but also BSC grads and trained them over a period of four years to be industry-ready through its “earn and learn programme’’ being run by Wipro Academy of Learning.

The Wipro top gun, however, ruled out any impact of the Dubai debt crisis on the firm, saying that its exposure to the Middle-East markets was minimal with less than a 4-5% of revenue contribution.
